Anti Racist Cumbria Summit 2023 Accessibility Information

Anti Racist Cumbria Summit, Thursday 2nd Nov 2023.

This is the pre-event accessibility information for the Anti Racist Cumbria Summit being held at Theatre By The Lake. We want to make this event as accessible as possible – we are continuing to work on this. If there is anything missing from this listed information, please let us know so we can improve. Our contact details are at the end of this document.

Venue Accessibility

Theatre By The Lake’s website highlights venue accessibility (including info on parking, assistance dogs, hearing enhancement, familiarisation visits) www.theatrebythelake.com/plan-your-visit/access/?dm_t=0,0,0,0,0.

Access and Parking

The venue parking and ‘getting here’ info is via this link https://www.theatrebythelake.com/plan-your-visit/

The venue has level access points, drop counters, a lift and accessible toilets on all floors (ambulant and wheelchair accessible). There are 14 designated disabled parking spaces located at the side of the Theatre on the council-run Lakeside Car Park. Currently Blue Badge holders can park in any bay free of charge for three hours.

Wifi

Wifi network is TBTL – no password is required

Health and hygiene

There are hand sanitising stations at every entrance to the building and auditorium. All the Front of House areas are naturally ventilated and are monitored for CO2 levels. Our Main House auditorium has an air handling system, which runs within current CIBSE guidelines.

The venue follows an enhanced cleaning regime within the building with touchpoints and toilets cleaned regularly. Mask wearing is a personal choice for customers, staff and volunteers.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome at TBTL. You can take your dog into the auditorium with you. Please speak to staff about the best options for seating with space. Bowls of water are available. Please advise us of your requirements when booking.

Chaperones

We will have multiple Anti Racist Cumbria volunteers present on the day, and can allocate a volunteer to chaperone you on request in advance. Please let us know by 5pm 1st November at the latest.

Printed content

Large print copies of the day’s core content will be available on arrival. Please collect one from the accessibility desk on registration (box office), where volunteers wearing yellow hoodies will be available to help.

We will provide transcripts of as much of the day’s content as possible but the nature of some sessions means we cannot guarantee that it will all be included in advance.

Hearing enhancement

There is an induction loop suitable in the Main House (theatre) for use with both analogue and digital hearing aids. To use this, please book your seats in rows A-F in the front stalls and adjust your hearing aid to the T setting.  Additionally we have hearing enhancement devices* for analogue hearing aids to relay sound via headsets and neck loops. These devices are free of charge and can be borrowed half an hour prior to the show. Please contact the Box Office for more information if required.
*In Studio traverse format only effective in rows F-J.

Faith

There is an allocated prayer room that will be open throughout the day situated in the Lamont Robinson room (top floor – lift available).

Quiet Spaces

There will be an allocated quiet space on the Mezzanine level (1st floor – lift available) next to the Studio Theatre. It can be accessed at any time and there will be seats available to rest. We ask anyone using this space to please be mindful and not to use phones or laptops.

Toilets

There are accessible toilets on all floors (ambulant and wheelchair accessible) and a gender neutral toilet on the Mezzanine (middle) floor.

Lunch and refreshments

There will be free tea and coffee on all floors for most of the day. The Spotlight Cafe will also be open to purchase drinks.

Lunch will be provided by Lakeside Cafe in partnership with Walaa’s Syrian Kitchen. The Lakeside Cafe is separate to the Spotlight Cafe and is down towards the lake.

Lunch will be served in sittings (times will be on your wristband) in The Lakeside Restaurant. Seating for dining is also available in the Spotlight Cafe in the theatre building. We can allocate a volunteer to bring your lunch to your table if you are unable to queue. Please let us know by 5pm 1st November at the latest if you require this service. If you do need your lunch brought to you, please choose from the menu below and let us know no later by 5pm 1st November at the latest what you would like.

Please let us know in advance of any allergens, and then also as you arrive to lunch. Thank you. The menu is vegan, and all pre requested dietary requirements have been catered for.

Falafel, Delicious deep-fried chickpea fritters

What you can expect from the day

When you arrive, you will be given a tote bag containing a brochure, two vegan snacks (including one gluten free), a pen, a bingo card, water, and you’ll be given a wristband. The wristband will tell you where you need to be and when. For example, if you have a pink wristband, that means you have a half day ticket (morning only).

Full day tickets will be allocated a lunchtime slot as either Green Group or Blue Group, for your lunch slots and workshop times.

Your wristband will tell you:

  • whether you are Pink, Green or Blue group

  • your workshop time and location (Workshop 1, 2 or 3),

  • your lunchtime slot

All speakers will wear microphones in the theatre.

Please let us know if you need to be near the front for workshops in order to fully participate.

All speakers will be briefed to audio describe their slides.

Any free time between your lunch and your workshop, you can choose to go on a boat trip, watch an ARC film in The Studio (playing on loop), have a chat with the ARC facilitation team in the Circle Gallery, explore one of three exhibitions; Windrush 75, ARC young people and Malawian artist Ellis Singano, grab a free hot drink, or use our quiet space or our prayer space.

Ask a volunteer in a yellow t-shirt if you’re unsure where you are supposed to be.

There will be tannoy announcements throughout the day.
