This year’s Anti Racist Summit takes place at Theatre By The Lake in Keswick. The social justice event always aims to highlight local culinary talent that celebrates global flavours. For the last two years Jamaican food from Windermere based Yardies has delighted attendees.
This year the event welcomes a kitchen takeover from Walaa’s Syrian Kitchen at Theatre By The Lake’s Lakeside Cafe. Walaa will work together highly skilled Lakeside Cafe chefs Rory and Chris to cook delicious authentic Syrian food for attendees. Walaa’s Syrian Kitchen is run by Walaa Asfar who came to Cumbria when she, her husband and children were offered refuge in the UK after having to leave their Syrian hometown. They have lived in Penrith since their arrival in 2017 and Walaa has been running her catering business since 2021.
The traditional menu celebrates cuisine such as falafel, dips, and special rice dishes and also includes the famous fried bread salad Fatoush, a firm favourite of Walaa’s.
Lunch is included for all Full Day Ticket holders – along with the keynote session, a workshop, plus additional experiences and activities throughout the day.
