Have you got what it takes to be a Project Lead for our youth-led TikTok project?
Our TikTok project is funded by Children in Need – We Move Fund and was born as a direct result of the experience that young Black people had in creating the short animated film The Fell We Climb. Experiencing connection during the making of the film made them want to support other Black young people not to feel alone and to have their experiences validated. They also want white people and communities, including their teachers, to understand what it feels like to grow up in Cumbria as a Black person. They want to build anti-racist community champions and believe that the TikTok platform can reach many people with their messages of racial injustice and the need for anti racism. The project and funding is specifically for young Black people from the African and Caribbean diasporas.
It is important to note that whilst the administrative elements of the job are best placed in usual office hours, time spent with the young people will likely take place outside of school and work hours, so flexibility for evenings, weekends and holiday time working is essential.
What we are looking for: Project Lead
Working with our in-house Grassroots Development Worker you will:
Support the young people to deliver TikTok content in-line with theirs and the project aims
Safeguard the young people
Empower young people and colleagues to create safe spaces for delivery of youth led projects
Arrange dates, times and venues for TikTok creation sessions
Organise youth workers and co-collaborators for these sessions with the young people
Co-create and use evaluation and impact tools
Support young people to self-evaluate
Co-create and collaborate with partners
Produce reports with Grassroots Development Worker and young people
Manage and work in line with project budget
Package:
Estimate 2 days per week, but note this is a flexible project that will require more input at some points and less at others.
Hybrid working available with our Windermere office available as a base for you. Some office visits would be required.
Fixed term freelance contract until May 2024

Essential:
Good local knowledge of area
Sense of adventure and willingness to try new things
Sense of humour and good fun
Excellent rapport with young people (you need to be able to relate to young people on their level, including young people who communicate or present in a variety of ways)
Reliable and supportive
Experience of leading on youth led and youth work projects
Experience of project leadership managing youth workers
A clear understanding of what is for young people and what is led by young people
Administrative skills to be able to manage, diaries, budgets, coordination of meetings/activities
Safeguarding knowledge
Be willing to be DBS certified
A demonstrable sound knowledge of intersectionality
Desirable:
Driving licence
First Aid Training
Health and Safety Training
Qualification in youth work or working with young people
