If you’ve made it this far then, chances are, you’re looking to learn more about anti-racism, either for yourself or your organisation. Welcome!

You may have you taken part in EDI training in the past, or even completed so unconscious bias modules. Did you notice any change after that training? Did it stay with you and develop your future learning? From experience and feedback, we know that the answer is often a resounding NO.

This is why Anti Racist Cumbria do things differently. We believe that the best way to understand and educate ourselves on racism and anti-racism is by creating spaces to have open, authentic discussions and conversations. Spaces where people have time to think and to process and come to their own conclusions.

There is no doubt that racism is a sensitive subject. It is one that people shy away from or avoid because it invokes feelings of fear; fear of saying or doing the wrong thing and even fear of being accused of being racist. By opening up dialogue we can confront that fear together, rather than shying away from it, we begin to get comfortable with the discomfort caused by this volatile but vitally important subject.

Read on to see what options we have available.

Our Anti Racist Programme educates and guides organisations to a place of true commitment, to doing better and playing your part in a society we can all be proud of.

This is not a tick box exercise, there are no unconscious bias training sessions or forced online ‘interactive’ courses. Our programme is both an organisational and individual journey that transforms cultures and embraces an intersectional approach that ensures no one is left behind. Anti-racism is at its core but by using a framework that turns different privileges into responsibilities our programme creates business cultures where everyone can reach their full potential. Curious about the difference? Check out this social post which explains a little more.

Building on the success of and learnings from our Anti Racist Cumbria Education Audit model, we have re-shaped our framework for a commercial environment. Anti Racist Cumbria receives funding from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and Paul Hamlyn Foundation as they believe in not only the programme design but our ability to deliver it at scale, and ensure the expertise and insight of those with deep understanding of anti-racism are at its heart.

By choosing anti-racism your business will ensure that all people can reach their full potential with you, can engage with you and can feel a real sense of belonging. Not only this, you will be making an important contribution to society as a whole and funds go to support grassroots projects like this and many more taking place across our county.

This programme is tailored to be bespoke, and can be budgeted for small or large organisations.

"We have been overwhelmed by the feedback and impact of these sessions. Colleagues have astounded us with their openness and willingness to really think deeply and what we each need to do differently – all of this couldn’t have been achieved without the safe space created by the Anti Racist Cumbria Team. They have opened up the space for the Conversation and to begin the work we now need to do."

Our Staff Group Workshops

If you’re a smaller organisation or a department looking for anti-racism learning as a group, we have several options.

Whether it’s one of our half day workshop options, our 4 part online sessions, or our full organisation programme – we do conversations.

The fear of talking about racism helps keep it going so we aim to create spaces where attendees can be open and have dialogue about it. This means we need to lean into discomfort, as that’s where change happens! If you’re not uncomfortable at points, you’re probably not engaging fully in the process. Don’t worry though, we laugh a lot too. It’s good for all of us.

Prices start from £1250 for up to 25 people

“In 30 years in the NHS I have never undertaken training like this. It was insightful, thoughtful, and challenged what I thought I knew. The way in which the training forces participants to hold a mirror up to themselves is very cleverly done. It has and will impact not only how I lead from a professional perspective, but also on how I engage outside of work in my network of family, friends and community.”

"Brilliant, the pace and flow was great, and it was very well led. It was engaging & informative, and people's reflections were great for thinking about things in a more nuanced way. Great balance of information to avoid overwhelm, but also thought provoking and informative."
